ROYAL WOOTTON BASSETT D-DAY CELEBRATION - 6th JUNE 2024

Back to overview

April 29, 2024

RWB Town Council are hosting the Event at Royal Wootton Bassett Rugby Football Club, Ballard’s Ash, Malmesbury Road, Royal Wootton Bassett, SN4 8DS.

This is a FREE Community outdoor event for all the family to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings.
41 Degrees will be headlining the event, also featuring The Wessex Male Choir, and Cantanti Choir. Scarrotts will have a small selection of fair ground attractions for the children, there will be vintage cars on display. Drinks will be available to purchase from the Rugby club’s mobile bar.
The food available to purchase will be lovely fish and chips, for a very specific reason. This is a nod to the significant role fish and chips played to ensure the safety of our troops on foreign soil. Soldiers aware of others in the vicinity, and not knowing if friend or foe, called out ‘Fish’. If the response was ‘Chips’ he was certain the unseen person was a friend.  It is also National Fish and Chips Day!

The lighting of the Beacon is taking place throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories and will be lit at 9.15pm, which is when we will be lighting ours after a tribute is read by the mayor.

All are invited to join in and commemorate with us.
