RECREATION AND OPEN SPACE

Play Areas in Purton

Purton Parish Council provides a selection of public play parks and recreational spaces within Purton. The play area and recreation committee, comprising of Parish Councillors, meets quarterly to discuss any current issues and future enhancement projects. These are public meetings so any one with an interest is welcome to attend.

Purton War Memorial and Village Centre Play Park – Church Street SN5 4DT

This is the largest of our public spaces. It has a play park, skate park, basketball area and junior football pitch.  In 2015 the Parish Council completely refurbished the play park, utilising funds from a Parish planning development fund (Section 106 monies). The play park which now provides a varied area of entertainment with your traditional swings and slides, but also a zip wire, 360o rotating seesaw, climbing frame with monkey bars amongst other items.

The junior football pitch is always popular especially in the summer months.

In 2017 the Parish Council installed CCTV at the village centre. There are free car parking spaces outside the park and at certain days and times there is a kiosk on site (operated privately) to purchase drinks and snacks.

This area is also the home of the Purton Football Club with a full sized football pitch and the Purton Bowls Club which has a green available to hire to the public provided suitable footwear is used. Purton Tennis club is also based here and we have a public tennis court available for hire through the Parish office.

Play Close Play Park – Play Close SN5 4DP

This is a smaller park designed for younger children up to age 12. This was refurbished in 2014 by the Parish Council utilising Parish Planning development funds (Section 106 monies). There are several picnic tables and benches along side the grassed area which are widely used throughout the year. There are a few free car parking spaces opposite the park.

Venture Park – Dogridge SN5 4DL

This is a lovely park at the top end of Purton. In case you are not aware of where it is take a look at the map.

There is a selection of activities to do here from swings, slides and wooden adventure trail to the baseball area and a football section with a goal net. You can access the park via the public foot paths either at Dogridge or Restrop view. Parking is limited to safely parking in one of the nearby residential areas.
