NO MOW MAY GEM DISCOVERED!
Back to overviewMay 30, 2024
Purton Parish Council has been supporting No Mow May this year, on all its managed areas, except for the Play Areas.
This rewilding was undertaken in hope that by reducing grass cutting, that this will help to provide food needed by our pollinators by helping to overcome the loss of flower rich meadows.
Results of not mowing on the managed areas have since brought some lovely results, including a bee orchid, which we wanted to share with you, and which is shown here:
Alongside its own efforts, Purton Parish Council remain keen to encourage local residents to support the initiative, by not mowing their own gardens in May, to enable long grass, wild flowers, and pollinators to flourish.
Residents thinking about supporting the scheme, might be encouraged to learn that not mowing in May, also supports efforts to tackle pollution and lock away carbon, as well as offering the advantage of not mowing for a few extra weeks.
For those who wish to support the initiative in the future, do note that you can choose not to mow any of your lawn, or you can decide to allocate a small amount of your garden to the cause. Even not mowing the smallest amount of lawn helps!
