Purton Parish Council has granted over £6000, to local causes and groups, at its Finance And General Purposes Meeting, on Monday 17th of June, at Purton Village Hall.

Under the General Power of Competence, Localism Act 2011 Councils are able to do any task which is legal for an individual, including the gifting of such donations.

At the meeting on Monday night, donations were made to Purton Bowls Club, Purton Football Club, Purton Cricket Club, Purton Historical Society, Peartree Pealers, Wiltshire Search and Rescue and Swindon Dial-a-Ride.

The funds granted to local causes, will provide a variety of benefits. For the Bowls club it will help to fund an access ramp and tools. For the football club it will provide an aerator for the grounds. At the cricket club it will help to repair a burst water pipe. Wiltshire Search and Rescue will use their funds to help to fund a generator and Swindon Dial-a-Ride will have the funds to continue to transport Purton Residents.

Clerk Deborah Lawrence said:

“Community groups are the glue that binds our community together and they provide enrichment to the lives of our local residents. It is our pleasure to provide funding to them and we hope to see more groups approach us for donations in the future.”
