ANNUAL PARISH MEETING
Thank you to all those who attended the Annual Parish Meeting on Monday 7 April. A warm welcome was given by the Vice Chair in the absence of our Chair of Council.
Public question time was followed by presentations by three organisations who receive donations from the Parish Council giving information on how the funds were used and the difference this made to the community and their groups.
Thank you to Purton Museum, Purton Cricket Club and Dial A Ride Swindon for agreeing to attend.
We were also delighted to receive a presentation from one of the volunteers who manages and fundraises for the two Community Access Defibrillators.
This was followed by our Volunteer Annual Awards presentation.
Nominations for 2024 were Len and Barbara Page, Libbie Shepherd, Neil Miles, Sylvia Freemantle, Steve Goodall and Susan Relfe.
Libbie Shepherd was awarded the trophy for all her volunteering in the community and she subsequently said “ I don’t feel like an unsung hero at all, because people are very generous with their ‘thank you’s’ in Purton, which is all we want.. working at Pips, setting up Christian Aid activities, doing the flowers in church, helping in the care homes…whatever it is we do people are usually very grateful, which leaves a warm feeling of friendliness which is enough reward. There are so many people and organisations in Purton helping to make the village warm with friendliness…those who run the museum, the Purton Magazine, those who spend hours every week maintaining the church building and churchyard, cooking meals for many who are not well, maintaining the cricket club and the minibus, to name but a few.
None of these people take part because they want to be thanked. They do it because they want Purton to be a warm place to live, with added friendliness.
So thank you to whoever nominated me. I am grateful…but people are so lovely that I don’t feel like an unsung her at all!”
