The Purton Coronation Bake Off 2023
Back to overviewMarch 28, 2023
On Saturday 6th May 2023, King Charles will be crowned at a special ceremony in Westminster Abbey. Marking this historic occasion, there will be a weekend of special events with a focus on volunteering.
Reflecting these themes, Purton Parish Council is launching The Purton Coronation Bake Off 2023, to bring people together to celebrate and to raise money for the Purton Community Fridge, which is run by volunteers.
The Purton Coronation Bake Off 2023, will take place on Saturday 29th April 2023 from 10am, at Purton Village Hall. Entry to the competition is free and all entrants will receive a small Coronation Commemorative gift.
Categories for the competition will include fairy cakes and shortbread, but also one for pear-based recipes given the Saxon names for the village ‘Piriton’, ‘Periton’ or ‘Pirton’, which were ways of spelling the ‘Peartree Village'.
Entrants are welcomed from 4 years old, with beginners able to simply decorate a plate of cakes or biscuits to showcase their creative and culinary talents.
Recipes are provided in the entry pack, but can be varied to make them Vegan, Dairy or Nut Free, but all entrants must make sure all their ingredients are listed and exclude fresh cream.
To take part, entrants must return their completed form by Friday 14th April at 4pm. Entry forms can be returned on paper or by post to Purton Parish Council, or emailed as a PDF/image to: susan.hughes@purtonparishcouncil.gov.uk
After the judging and prize giving, there will be a raffle of the baked entries in aid of The Purton Community Fridge, reflecting the emphasis that His Majesty has placed on volunteering.
Full details of the competition and how to submit your baked entries are provided in the entry form at this link: The Purton Coronation Bake Off 2023.
